FX5 Media Files: download the original X-OCN from the series

129 GB of real FX5 material — 34 X-OCN clips shot in Mexico and Peru, with the Resolve project included. Free, from our own server. And I'm presenting it live at Semana AMC.

FX5 Media Files: download the original X-OCN from the series

Since the FX5 series started, I get the same request on every episode: “release the material”. Here it is: the FX5 Media Files, the X-OCN exactly as it came out of the camera — three months of production in Mexico and Peru, and this is only video 2 of 16.

The facts

  • 34 16-bit X-OCN clips (.mxf), with full camera metadata: lens, tilt, roll and pan — readable in Resolve and in Sony’s apps (Catalyst, RAW Viewer), useful for post, virtual production and VFX.
  • Already compatible with DaVinci Resolve (from version 21.0.4) and with Premiere in its public beta.
  • 129 GB, free, from our own server: grab one clip, several or everything, with resume support and no daily traffic caps.
  • Includes the DaVinci Resolve project and the PDF with credits and legal notice — a required step 1 before the clips.
  • In this video I explain what each clip contains and the full workflow.
  • A transparency note: I shot with a prototype prior to the final model, so some clips carry no camera name in their metadata. The sensor and the codec are the same ones you’ll be buying.

What’s in the clips

These aren’t pretty shots: they’re exercises designed to stress the camera. Color charts for you to do your own balance. Dual gain tests at the ISO 800 base — with and without the function, so you can compare how cleanly it lifts shadows (and what little noise there is looks more like grain). Dynamic range with a tilt straight into the sun, so you can see the highlight roll-off. Autofocus in low light. And painting recreations — tenebrism in the style of Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Velázquez — shot on a stage with a Fisher dolly and a 50mm G Master at F1.2, plus exercises with variable ND filters pushed to the extreme (at 9 stops they show their cross pattern, and it’s there in the material for you to learn to spot it).

The X-OCN workflow in DaVinci Resolve

The included Resolve project: the timelines exactly as you see them in the videos.

The workflow that ships with the files

The clips come in three base ISOs — 800, 4,000 and 12,800 (dual gain lives at 800). In the video I build the project from scratch: DaVinci YRGB Color Managed with Wide Gamut Intermediate, no mapping LUTs — let Resolve map the input color space; that’s what it talks to camera makers for. First light happens in Camera RAW thinking in ISO stops, the way photographers do, and from there you separate correction from grading. X-OCN is also genuinely efficient: playback runs fine even from a spinning hard drive.

LATAM read

I believe this camera, with the X-OCN LT codec, unlocks workflows that until now lived only from the BURANO up to the VENICE 2: it lets us work with and learn, in an accessible way, the same workflow used on the biggest Hollywood and streaming films and series. Technology gets more democratized every day — and in the video I walk through that workflow step by step so you can replicate it with these very clips.

See you at Semana AMC

I’ll be at Semana AMC, September 1-6 at Estudios Churubusco (Mexico City), presenting this material with DaVinci — and we’ll also talk about using Higgsfield and Seedance in films. For your Semana AMC access, code CACHEPHOTO gets you a 30% discount when registering at semanaamc.com. And there’s more coming: a 4K theater screening of the material in Mexico City, by invitation — write to me if you want a seat.

My personal opinion — Daniel Blanco A.M.C.

To me this camera sits at VENICE and BURANO level: it’s the pivot of what’s coming in cinema, and I’m shooting my next film with it, two-camera. But don’t take my word for it — that’s why I’m sharing the original material: test it and decide with your own eyes. If you see noise, blame the exposure, not the camera. And the credits PDF comes first for a reason: a real crew made these tests, and in this house credit is visible.
